Interim SEND Auditor Location: Harrow-based, with nationwide travel Contract: Interim / Contract Working Pattern: Flexible, dependent on assignment Salary: Competitive day rate, dependent on experience About the Role We are seeking an experienced SEND Auditor to undertake interim assignments across the UK, with the role based from Harrow and requiring nationwide travel. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced SEND professional with a strong understanding of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) to support schools, local authorities and education settings in reviewing, evaluating and improving their SEND provision. The successful candidate will have substantial practical SEND experience and be confident carrying out independent audits, identifying areas for improvement and providing clear, evidence-based recommendations. Key Responsibilities Undertake comprehensive SEND audits and reviews across schools and education settings. Evaluate the effectiveness and quality of SEND provision, processes and practice. Review SEND policies, procedures, documentation and statutory requirements. Assess the effectiveness of SEND support, provision and outcomes for children and young people. Review the impact of SENCOs, leadership teams and wider staff in meeting the needs of pupils with SEND. Identify strengths, areas of risk and opportunities for improvement. Produce clear, accurate and evidence-based audit reports. Provide practical recommendations and realistic improvement actions. Work collaboratively with school leaders, SENCOs, governors, local authorities and other key stakeholders. Provide professional challenge and constructive feedback where required. Support organisations in developing effective SEND strategies and improvement plans. Keep up to date with relevant SEND legislation, statutory guidance and Ofsted expectations. Travel nationally to undertake assignments as required. Essential Experience The successful candidate must have significant hands-on experience working within SEND and a strong understanding of SEND practice within education. Essential requirements include: Proven experience working within the SEND sector. Experience of undertaking SEND audits, reviews, inspections or quality assurance activity. Strong knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice and relevant statutory requirements. Experience of working with schools, SENCOs and/or local authorities. Strong understanding of SEND provision, assessment and outcomes. Experience of analysing evidence, identifying areas for improvement and producing professional reports. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work independently and manage multiple interim assignments. Professional, confident and credible approach when working with senior stakeholders. Willingness and ability to travel nationwide. Desirable Experience Previous experience as a SENCO, SEND Lead, SEND Adviser, Local Authority SEND Officer, SEND Inspector or equivalent. Experience working across different types of schools and educational settings. Experience of supporting schools through SEND improvement programmes. Knowledge of Ofsted inspection frameworks and SEND expectations. Relevant SEND, education, leadership or inspection qualifications. You will need to be confident operating at both strategic and operational levels and able to build positive working relationships while maintaining professional independence and objectivity. This is an interim role, so candidates must be able to demonstrate relevant, recent SEND experience and be comfortable working across different organisations and settings. Location & Travel The position is Harrow-based but nationwide, with assignments taking place across the UK. Candidates should therefore be willing and able to travel as required.
